Apology to Ms Ellisa Clarke

Solicitors Taylor & Emmet have written to the Messenger on behalf of Ms Ellisa Clarke, former Burngreave New Deal for Communities Partnership Board member, to say that the article we published in our March 2003 edition entitled ‘Whose voice?’ gives the impression that she and her colleague Mr Johnson approached the Government Office with the prime intention of obtaining salaried positions and cars for themselves.

The Messenger editorial team would like to make clear that it was not our intention to give this impression. We apologise for any distress we may have caused Ms Clarke and Mr Johnson through this interpretation of our article.

Our report of ‘Voice of the People’s’ application for New Deal funding was necessarily brief. Messrs Taylor and Emmet inform us that the proposal was nine pages long, detailed and carefully researched. As a result of the brevity of our report, they say, we have been very selective in what we published. We apologise for not approaching ‘The Voice of the People’ for comment during the preparation of this article and are sorry that we have not had the opportunity to report more fully on their proposal.
